CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructors: Kim Powell and Emily Stone This was the first course that I took in the MAET program. It was a wonderful experience that helped me to think about my Personal Learning Network and how to expand it using social media. I learned a lot about TPACK throughout the semester which involved technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. I created a webpage strictly for blogging about the class and even learned something new! I chose to take up knitting and turned to YouTube and discussion pages that revolved around the topic to learn more. This helped to expand my personal learning network and look for different ways to gain more knowledge about something I had little experience with. |
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Instructors: Janine Campbell and Amy Pietrowski In CEP 811, I continued to blog throughout the course. This class involved purchasing a Makey Makey. In trying to expand my thinking and think outside the box, I created a lesson plan involving syllables, the game Hungry Hungry Hippo, and my Makey Makey kit. This class involved a lot about the Maker Movement and how we can make the shift in our classrooms to adapt to the 21st century learner. I even had the opportunity to create a 21st century classroom when given an unlimited budget. Overall, this course taught me how to be creative, imaginative, think outside the box, and learn through the trial and error process. |
Spring 2016
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Instructors: Allison Keller In this course, I created a survey to my colleagues that helped me to understand how people were using technology in their classrooms and which subject areas they were using it the most. From this information, I chose a Wicked Problem (an issue in the teaching profession that cannot be easily solved) that I see in today's schools. Working with three other classmates, we determined why our problem was so wicked and brainstormed different ways to help resolve these issues and not make them so wicked after all. The class instilled the idea of rethinking our teaching and how to drive our students learning through their passions and curiosities. |
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Instructors: Elizabeth Owens Boltz and Dr. Anne Heintz The main project during this course was to create an online course. This was difficult in always having experience as the student but never the teacher in online education. Through the use of Weebly, I created three lesson plans that revolved around letter and letter sound identification for a kindergarten classroom. Through trial and error, YouTube videos, and using my personal learning network, I created an online classroom for my students. |
Summer 2016
CEP 800: Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructors: Diana Campbell, Carmen Richardson, and Dr. Cary Roseth This class helped me to understand the importance and significance of learning. Students learn in various ways and throughout the course we focused on the difference between an expert and a novice learner. Discussions took place on where learning occurs, how students learn best, and then we were challenged to develop our own theory of learning. Our challenge in developing a theory of learning was how to get students excited, keep them engaged, and wanting to learn more information. Through a grant proposal writing I was able to identify the needs for the 21st century classroom and look to grant writing to fulfill the needs of my students. |
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Benjamin Gleason and Dr. Aman Yadav This course focused on different leadership roles in technology. A main focus was on creating a professional development that taught others how to integrate technology into their teaching. I chose to focus on teaching others how to create screencasts in order to enhance the delivery of their content and pedagogical processes. In looking at technology through multiple perspectives, this class focused on the responsibility of managing relationships between people, teaching, technology, and learning. Throughout the course I developed my blurry vision of leadership in technology and created a clearer vision by the end of the semester after taking the role of multiple perspectives. |
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: Ming Lei, Dr.David E. Wong, and Yining Zhang This course focused on data. How to read data, how to collect data, and what to do with the data once you have it. Through the collection process a report was created that identified the findings and different ways that it could be represented. The second half of the course involved a research review. My review focused on the importance of read alouds by the teacher in the classroom compared to reading a story online. |
Fall 2016
CEP 807: Capstone in Educational Technology
Instructors: Aric Gaunt, Spencer Greenhalgh, and Dr. Matthew Koehler This was the final course of the MAET program. In this course, I created a portfolio to demonstrate some of the work that I completed throughout the MAET program. I learned a lot about myself as an educator, learner, and explorer throughout the process. The online portfolio helps to showcase the learning throughout the program as well as the learning of a 21st century learner. |
